Hei didul-didul!

This is another nursery rhyme that I turned into Latin; it is one of my favorite English nursery rhymes too! You can find out more about this rhyme at Wikipedia. 

Hei didul-didul!

Felesque fidesque!

    Ad Lunam vacca salit

Cachinnat catellus

Et iamiam cultellus

    Cum cochleare fugit.

Here's the traditional English version... and yes, this is the source of our saying "to be over the moon" (at least that's what Wikipedia says):

Hey diddle diddle,

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon;

The little dog laughed

To see such sport,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

And here's a literal English translation of the Latin, side by side:

Hey diddle-diddle

    Hei didul-didul!

Both the cat and the fiddle!

    Felesque fidesque!

To the moon the cow jumps

    Ad Lunam vacca salit

The little dog guffaws

    Cachinnat catellus

And right now the knife

    Et iamiam cultellus

Together with the spoon runs away.

    Cum cochleare fugit.
